My Divorced Neighbor Told Me, “I’m Going to Steal Your Husband, So You’d Better Prepare for Divorce” — I Decided…
After seventeen years of marriage, I never imagined another woman would sit in my kitchen, look me in the eye, and calmly tell me she planned to take my husband.
When Vanessa stopped pretending, I realized arguing with her would be pointless.
So I let her think she was winning.
My husband, Irvin, and I had been married for seventeen years when Vanessa moved into the house next door. She was newly divorced, beautiful, confident, and alone.
At first, I felt sorry for her.
I welcomed her with an apple pie, helped with her boxes, and invited her over for coffee.
That was my first mistake.
Soon, Vanessa began calling Irvin whenever she needed something fixed—a jar she couldn’t open, a smoke detector battery, a loose cabinet handle, a shelf that suddenly needed moving.
Irvin was naturally helpful. He saw her as a neighbor adjusting to life alone.
I saw
something else.
One afternoon, Vanessa looked at his arms and smiled.
“Claire is lucky. Though I bet she’s too busy with all that baking to notice.”
That evening, I warned Irvin.
“She keeps finding reasons to get you alone.”
He promised to stop responding to every little request.
Then Vanessa came to my house while Irvin was at work.
We were drinking coffee when she smiled and said, “I’m going to take your husband.”
I thought she was joking.
She wasn’t.
“You should probably start preparing for divorce,” she added. “Men get bored after that many years.”
